Learning Objectives:
The learning goal/purpose of this educational activity is:
To help registered nurses working in primary care settings advance their knowledge regarding nutrition and physical activity, specifically as related to cancer risk and prevention. The nurse will take back to practice updated knowledge necessary to educate patients and empower them with information regarding the impact of nutrition and physical activity on health as well as current nutrition and physical activity guidelines as related to cancer risk.
The objectives of this education activity are:
- Discuss current epidemiologic evidence supporting the impact of poor nutrition and lack of physical activity on cancer-related morbidity and mortality.
- Identify the causal links between obesity and lack of physical activity and cancer.
- Describe the health and economic consequences of obesity.
- Identify current nutrition and physical activity recommendations.
- Discuss the impact of nutrition and physical activity in altering cancer risk.
- Identify ways patients can incorporate nutrition and physical activity into their daily routines.
- Describe the nurse’s role in promoting nutrition and physical activity.
